I cannot find a hotel in Jerusalem that I can afford. We want near Jaffe or New Gate near the Christian Sector. All the Guest Houses in the Old Town are filled. Any suggestions? Our trip is 3/1-3/12-2012

In all my travels across numerous countries I found Israel the most expensive. From my research, it seems like a lot of the hotels in Israel are very mediocre but come with a high price. You haven't mentioned what you can afford - so difficult for folks to make a suggestion.

Joyce, I had a very hard time finding accomodation in Jerusalem, a lot of hotels were full for the dates I needed. I get the impression Jerusalem doesn't have enough hotels to meet the demand - one of the reasons why prices are high. I understand you'd like to stay in the Christian Sector, but do consider hotels outside the old city that are walking distance to Jaffe Gate or New Gate.
