Can anyone recommend a good hotel in Budapest for two single female travelers--that isn't too expensive? We'd like to be near major sites and/or a metro stop.
My wife and I rented a flat in Budapest, but my parents stayed at the Hotel K&K Opera and loved it. They got a great rate booking directly with the hotel through email and mentioning Rick Steves. It is right off of the Metro Line 1 and near the main tram lines. Great central, safe location with a really good breakfast buffet.
I loved my stay at Home Made Hostel. Don't let the word "hostel" scare you - it feels a lot more like a B&B than a hostel. It's basically a very large flat turned into a hostel and has warm, homey decor, and they do have at least one private 2-person room. I strongly suggest you check them out! http://homemadehostel.com/

We really enjoyed the location in "Buda", just under the Fisherman's Bastion (that we visited every night after dark for the 1000 photo-ops and amazing views of the Danube, Pest, and the Parliament building). A key metro stop is only a 5-minute walk away (right by a grouping of restaurants and a nice grocery store). It will get you anywhere you want to go fast & hassle-free. The owners will sit you down at check-in and give you a city map with hand-written notations showing you where to go and how to get there. The Breakfast is large and tasty, too.
Another vote for B&B Bellevue. We had a spacious room with balcony overlooking woods below the church. It was convenient to restaurants, transportation, etc. and the owners were great. Would stay there again.
