Can anyone suggest some quiet, clean, safe and well-located, non-chain hotels in Belgrade or Dubrovnik that are under US$120/night? Thanks!
I have stayed at the Hotel Royal 3 times. Two years ago I paid about $40.00/night. It's about a 2 star place. It's advantages are the closeness to the central shopping areas of the city, the Kalamegdan, trolley line, and it's literally around the corner from one of my favorite places, the Ethnographic Museum. Rooms are fairly small but clean. There is an elevator, a bar, a restaurant, and an exchange booth. There is a bank across the street and up a few doors, also for exchanging currency, although I found the rates at the booth were OK. Everyone at the front desk spoke English. They have been making the effort over the last several years to upgrade their facilities, as far as possible: new sinks and toilets, carpeting, etc. I would be surprised if they haven't finished by now, so you shouldn't get a shabby room. You can search on "Hotel Royal, Belgrade".
