Hotel recommendation in Rhodes Town

With much help from this board, I've decided to spend five nights between the Village Turkey tour (ends in Bodrum) and the Greece tour (begins in Athens) on the island of Rhodes. This will be in September. I hope to take a ferry from Bodrum to Rhodes and, later, fly to Athens. While I would appreciate any suggestions/ideas about our stay, I'm mostly concerned about a hotel right now. We usually stay in 3-star Rick-Steves-type hotels. I think we'd be happier in Rhodes town than in a beach hotel. Any recommendations would be very much appreciated. Thanks! Nancy

We loved Hotel Attiki, right in the middle of Old Town. It's a small, 10-room hotel in a lovely medieval building, with one of the friendliest, most helpful owners we have ever encountered. It's the #1 B&B on Trip Advisor, and a bargain at 84 euros a night. We were there last September and wouldn't consider anyplace else in Rhodes! While on Rhodes, you might check the ferries to see if there's a catamarran day-trip going to Kastellorizo while you are there. I think they go twice a week through mid-September. It would be a couple of hours on the boat each way, but you would have a chance to see an amazingly beautiful place. It's a tiny island, with a picturesque town built around a deep water harbor. No beaches, but you can swim with the turtles in the warm water of the harbor, so bring your swimsuits. Lots of places to eat. Some great little hikes. Highly recommended. We actually stayed there for 6 nights, but if you can't stay, at least a visit would be fun.

I really enjoyed my stay in Rhodes old town at the Via Via Hotel. The owner, Beatrice, was as colorful as her rooms and she has a great roof top terrace with fantastic views. Because you will be in Rhodes in September it will be low season for Via Via's pricing so it will be very affordable. Have a fantastic trip!

we enjoyed our stay at Hotel Cava d'Oro inside the town walls. it had medieval themed room decor and our room had an outdoor terrace.

I'm so sorry not to have responded sooner. I became consumed with ferry problems (since resolved) and I completely dropped the housing issue for a while. I checked into all of the suggestions, but ended up getting a reservation at Klimt Guest House. As always, I so appreciate your suggestions. Now, I'm working on an itinerary for our days in Rhodes and I'll definitely consider the day trip to Kastellorizo. Thanks again!
