My husband and two teenage sons will be in Greece and Turkey this summer. I wondered if anyone has stayed at the Plaka Hotel recently? It seems to get mixed reviews on Trip Advisor, some great and some terrible. We are looking for a clean hotel in a central location, don't need anything fancy as we are never in our rooms except to sleep. Also wanted to see about the Hotel Sultan Hill in Istanbul. Last time we were there on the Rick Steves Turkey Tour we stayed at the Obelisk Hotel and loved it, but the Hotel Sultan Hill seems to get great reviews and the price is quite a bit less when getting two rooms. If anyone has other hotel suggestions feel free to share.

I've not stayed in the Plaka Hotel, so can't comment, but if all you need is somewhere to sleep that is clean then all of these are in a similar area, fit the bill, and are cheaper

You'll need to mail the Phaedra for a price but the last time we stayed a double was 80 euros.
Have a good trip.

Hi Sally,
We were in Istanbul in May and spent a total of 7 nights at Hotel Sultan Hill! We loved it--great location (just behind the Blue Mosque), really helpful staff, wireless Internet, and clean rooms all at a great price.
Hi Sally, I stayed at the Sultan Hill in November 2009. It was great - a well-run, small hotel in a beautifully restored old house. There's a roof terrace too, and the breakfast is decently filling. Convenient for sightseeing too. The staff are helpful, booked an affordable van transfer for us back to the airport on our last day.
Here are some good hotels near the Plaka and Syntagma Square: Attalos, Central, Pan, Arethusa, Cecil, Amazon, Metropolis, Omiros, Hermes.
We stayed at the Hotel Plaka in fall 2008 and it was fine. It has elevators, it's clean if a bit worn around the edges, the breakfast was plentiful and good, and it's right in the Plaka area which is very fun to walk around. Best of all - the views of the Acropolis and the city from the roof deck at night. Also - it's only a short walk from the Monastiraki metro stop. It's not fancy, but it was fine for us.
