Hotel in Paros

My husband and I are booked to stay at Young Inn in Naoussa in Paros in August. Our daughter just called from there in a panic... She arrived at the Young Inn this a.m. with her fiance and discovered that there were tons of cockroaches scurrying around. They stayed a couple of hours because they were so tired from taking an overnight ferry and by the time they staggered out of the hotel discovered that they were covered in tiny bites. They are thinking fleas? She advised us to cancel- duh! Anybody have positive comments on another hotel to stay in on Paros? Thanks for your help... Deb Chilliwack, B.C.

Yuch! Sorry to hear that. Several suggestions. First, check TripAdvisor for reviews by other travellers, www.tripadvisor.com. Second, there are 3 listings in our Lonely Planet book that sound nice. All are in the moderate category:

Hotel Argonauta: www.argonauta.gr
Eleni Rooms: www.eleni-rooms.gr
Angie's Studios: www.angies-studios.gr

Several others, from the budget category:

Rooms Rena: phone 2284 022 220
Jane's Rooms: phone 2284 021 338
Rooms Mike: 2284 022 856 "Very popular, especially with backpackers"
Hotel Eleftheria: phone 2284 022 047

First forget about Naoussa. Stay in the capital Parikia. The Argonauta is good but I prefer the Appollon. If you want studio rooms you can't do better than the Margarita apartments, they are run by a charming man called Athimious and his lovely wife. They are clean ( and I mean REALLY clean ) friendly and inexpensive. If you go to Anti Paros, I've stayed at Hotel Mantalena and that is basic but very good. Paros is one of my very favourite places. The only bad accommodation is in Naoussa.

Thanks for your help. We've booked the Apollon for our stay. The reviews on Hostel-World were certainly a lot more positive than on Trip-Advisor. Not sure why... At least we won't be tormented by bugs! Our daughter ended up going to Tinos and staying at Anna's rooms which she loves. It's an apt. and they got groceries for three days for under 30 euros. She says the only tourists are other Greeks. Deb
