Hotel- credit card information over email

Booking with a hotel in Santorini and she wants me to send all my credit card information over email. I'm not comfortable with this but would sending it over fax be better? Or best to call with the numbers? What is most secure?

There's no method that is 100% secure, be it email, fax, or telephone. Lots of fraud comes from very low-tech methods like sifting through garbage cans, stealing mail, or a clerk simply writing down your card number on a piece of paper and selling it to some bad guys. I've emailed my CC details to lots of hotels over the years, never had a problem.

Better to send it by fax if possible. Which hotel is it?

Casa Sofia

I think I am just going to call her with the information- makes me feel better doing it over the phone.

Thanks!

A low-tech solution that makes many nervous people more comfortable with sending info via e-mail... absurdly simple:

Tell her in the e -mail that you are mailling her HALF of your VISA Card Number and in a Separate e-mail tomorrow, you will send the second half & the expiration date.

This would thwart any cunning "web-crawler" mechanism that would be trolling the internet to POUNCE on your info. It would also thwart any hotel employee who would be looking to scribble down info and sell it to some crooked syndicate. Because he could not know WHEN exactly your 2nd email would come in , and could not "lurk" at the desk waiting for it, without arousing suspicion. See?

Frankly most GReek hotels like Sofia are family-run, and if anybody looks at the email besides the owners, it is likely to be their brother or niece who has that job. Relax ... why place a LD call, use the above procedure.

Michele,

I was also a bit nervous about sending credit card information to Greece, but I was dealing with a reputable Greek Travel Agency so decided to take a chance. I've been watching my credit card statments and so far no problems.
