Hello, We are planning a hiking trip in Slovenia for summer of 2013. We were wondering if anyone has an insight or experience with a local guiding company based in Slovenia? We are interested in a guided hike and accomodations. Any and all recommendations would be welcome. Thank You!
Denise
Hi Denise. My wife and I took a Rick Steves' Best of the Adriatic Tour with Slovenian guide Sašo. We met Tina, his wife, at Lake Bled, and she's a guide as well. Both are great and are featured in a RS video with the script at http://www.ricksteves.com/tvr/season6/sn6_res_script_slovenia.htm They operate a private guide company and can be found by a quick search on the Internet.
Happy travels.
Hi Denise! You will have a unbelievable time in Slovenia. Hiking is very popular but even in peak season you will find solitude in the hills and mountains :) Bohinj is the most popular starting point for hikes into the Triglav National Park, tracks lead off in all directions for short and long hikes. Kranjska Gora is another amazing choice. On the other side, Bovec\Kobarid and Tolmin offer wonderful hiking along the amazing Soca Valley. Even out east and south there is amazing hiking. The Maribor Pohorje is great and walking around the Jeruzalem area is fantastic. Ask at 3Glav Adventures for advice and guides. http://www.3glav-adventures.com/ For accommodation, there a loads of choices in Bled\Bohinj like the Penzion Mayer and the Dolinar Tourist Farm, the Rabic Apaprtments in Stara Fuzina are nice. On the other side, try Jojo Apartments in Bovec.
