What are the current available options for travel between Greece and Turkey? I would prefer to take a ferry or train rather than fly, but not sure how to do it.
The Greek rail system is very limited these days. You can take a train from Athens to Thessaloniki, but to travel the rest of the way to Turkey you have to go by bus. There are 5 main Greek islands from which you can enter Turkey by ferry, Lesvos, Chios, Samos, Kos and Rhodes. The ferry schedules have changed since last year and some routes are not the same. How you do it will depend on where you want to go. Obviously you can't use the rail system if you're on an island just before you head to Turkey, or vice-versa, so you need to tell us what you've got planned so far and where you want to go that you haven't figured out yet. Which means, you have to figure it out first then ask your questions.
We did it the other way around. It was October. We did not book anything. When our R.S. Turkey Tour ended in Kusadasi we took ferry to Samos, then to Mykonos, next day to Santorini, stay few days and then to Pireus. From there by subway to Athens.
Thanks......you answered my questions. At this step of planning the trip, I wanted to travel from Turkey to the Greek islands, but didn't know which islands I could enter from there.
