Help needed for travel from Prague to Cesky Krumlov to Vienna

My mom and I will be traveling from Prague to Cesky Krumlov (staying one night there) and then traveling onto Vienna the next day. I'm trying to figure out the best method for getting to Cesky Krumlov and then onto Vienna. So far I've looked at trains, shuttles, car rentals and buses but don't know what's the most efficient/ best bang for our travel buck. We aren't adverse to mixing up our modes of transport, so long as we get there in one piece! Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Also tips for any of the cities would be great too! I've been briefly to Prague and Vienna but this is the first time for my mom and want to make it an awesome trip for her.

We've done this itinerary by car. The driving is easy and the distances aren't great. We also stopped along the way to see the Melk Abbey. The drawback for you would be the one-way dropoff fee if you picked up the car in Prague and returned it in Vienna. (When we did it we picked up and returned the car in Prague.)

The fastest way to get to C.K. from Prague is Student Agency Yellow bus. It is with bathroom on board and stewardess selling snacks, coffee etc. Also movies. I prefer to watch beautiful countryside. It takes almost three hours. You can also go by train with change in Ceske Budejovice. It takes slightly longer. To go by bus from C.K. to Vienna is not practical. Too long, too many changes. It takes 4 and half hours by train. You have to change trains in Ceske Budejovice and Ceske Velenice. You can check for trains on Deutsche Bahn website. Check for buses at www.idos.cz

I agree on the Student Agency Bus from Prague to CK. To get to Vienna you could also take the bus to Brno then switch to train. I rode the buses in Czech Republic this spring. They are not as bad as you might think - just cramped and the climate control for me was uncomfortably warm. If you can take the train, it would be better. When I was reserching our trip I did not find a workabkle way to do it on the train, but It was not a connection we seriously considered so I did not search much, more just out of curiosity. Oh, there are also direct shuttles that are somewhat reasonable between CK and Vienna.

I have done this by bus train and car. I think your best bet from Praha to C. Krumlov is bus. Buses are frequent cheap and comfortable. I think it is about a 2 hour ride and last time I did it (2005) there were buses leaving morefrequently than every two hours. From C. Krumlov I think you want to take a bus to C. Budejovice. The bus station is across the street from the train station so the transfer is easy. Then the Train from there to Wien.
If you want to you can take bus from C. Krumlov to Trebon. You can spend a few hours seeing this gem and then catch the train to Wien from there. The train station is about 100 yards outside the Trebon town walls.
