Help! How do I use michelin or google maps to find driving times.

OK, usually I can figure things out but I have been trying to follow some advice about checking driving times using those two programs, and I can't seem to get either one to work. The Google thing just has two places for information, but when I put in Istanbul and Ankara it tells me it can't give directions. The michelin site seems to want a full address, which I don't have. What am I missing? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Sally,

I generally use ViaMichelin.com (which you were using), and if you just leave the "Address, station..." line blank you should not have any problems. Just put in Istanbul in the departure "Town, City, Postcode..." line, select Turkey as the Country, then Ankara in the Destination "Town, City, Postcode..." line and select Turkey under Country, and the directions should come up. The route says it takes 4h36min and costs €39.93 in tolls.

HERE is a link that I hope works to give you the driving route with the information I put in. Hope it helps...

Angela: Good work helping Sally! I was able to go to your link, it was still active and I could see the route you'd had it create. Sally: If you click Angela's link after too much time has gone by, the link may not work because it has timed out on the michelin site, meaning you won't see the route Angela put in--but just follow her directions and it will work for you.Re Google Maps, apparently its coverage doesn't extent to Turkey because I got the same error message you did. It works fine for western Europe.

Google maps gives me the same error sometimes for parts of Slovenia too. It is frustrating.

Angela's advice for the viamichelin site is spot on though!

Thanks to all of you; I was able to use the link for viamichelin and get the info I need. Of course, now that I can see how long it will take I am realizing I might need to fly for one of the long legs to fit in what I want to see. OK, more planning!
