Hellenic Seaways ferries to Hydra

Hello, my husband and I have reservations to spend three nights in Hydra April 28- May 1st. We will take a ferry from the Athens port to Hydra. The online reviews for Hellenic Seaways are pretty bad generally. I don't know if there is another option for this route. I am also concerned about the security of our luggage while on board. The schedule is still not available on line but based on current schedules it looks like it will work out time wise. We would want to be seated together of course so do we need to wait and purchase our tickets in person to guarenteed this? I'm sorry to have so many questions but the reviews raised many issues and concerns. I'm am totally open to new suggestions or opinions. Thanks for any and all input.

I took a Hellenic Seaways catamaran from Athens (Piraeus) to Hydra last May. I bought my ticket upon arrival in Piraeus, just a few hours before departure, and had no problems. The catamaran wasn't full, as it likely would be in high season, so you can move around once under way. Luggage is stored near the entrance/exit, but I didn't feel like it was any more or less safe than when traveling on a train or bus. My experience was just fine, and I wouldn't hesitate to take a Hellenic Seaways catamaran again. I'm not aware of any other options.

The HS Flying Dolphin is your only option. The schedule for April 28 is available online. Since there is apparently only one ferry for the day and April 28 is a Saturday there's a good chance it will be full. Try booking through the HS website and pickup your tickets at the port. If you wait you might lose out.

Amy, A few points about the Flying Dolpins to Hydra..... Larger luggage items are stored in a "bin" by the door. The crew usually likes to get luggage and passengers loaded quickly. It's a relatively short trip (about 1.5 hours) but you might want to keep some motion sickness med's at hand in case the seas are a bit rough. I'm not usually prone to motion sickness, but felt a bit queasy on that trip. Cheers!
