Six months ago I purchased jewelry at Olympico jewelry in Athens and was promised a VAT refund. I got the form stamped at the airport & put it in the mail slot according to instructions from the store. As of yet, I have not received a refund. An e-mail to the saleman has not been answered.

When we got our form stamped at the airport and mailed it it was to say that we had already gotten the VAT refund (direct from the store) and to confirm that we were taking the purchases out of the country with us. There was another lineup at the airport for actually applying for the refund and it was definitely a more involved process. I'm not sure if things have changed since then or you just got taken for the tax!

My husband and I just returned from a wonderful 10day trip to Greece. We purchased jewelry in Athens, as we arrived at the airport in Athens to fly out, we went to the VAT office and they stamped whatever we needed stamped and from there to the currency booth where we received our VAT in dollars! Very easy! Candyce

I would like to report that after waiting for 7 months, my VAT refund was credited to my charge account today!
