Has anyone ever taken the train from Athens to Patras!?

I am taking the train from athens to patras and I am curious to know if it worthwhile to take the train over night or to do it in the day?? Should I stay in Patras for a day? Or just transfer to the ferry to Italy?? Has anyone made this trip before?

Judging by my rail guide, it looks like the last train leaves at 19:38 and arrives at 23:27 and there is one transfer. Plus, you have to reserve that spot, which will prob cost more. If you leave early enough in the morning, (7:38) you can get there for 11:54, no reservation fee. When are you going to greece? I'll be there on the 30th of april

First check your departure time of the ferry. Most ferries are overnight, departing late afternoon to early evening. In that case, you can take the train in the morning, have the afternoon in Patras, and leave. You now take a train to Corinth, then depart to Patras, so you may have time to see the canal.
