I was wondering if anyone has visited Gyor. I will be arriving in Hungary next week. I will be staying in Budapest but am interested in day trips by train. My interest is Gyor is that my grandmother was born there. Any information is appreciated.

Trains leave from Deli and Keleti stations roughly every half hour and take between 1hr 20min to 2hr. They cost between 2400 and 2800 Forints, or around $12. Trains that say "IC" or "RailJet" are the faster, more comfortable ones. There is a 9:10 departure that would probably work nicely for a day trip. Depending on where you are in Budapest, Keleti is probably the station that you will use. Give yourself some extra time to find the ticket windows and the right train, I would plan on arriving at 8:30 for a 9:10 train, just to be safe. The train station in Gyor is very close to the old town and all the sights.
