I was really disappointed in my local bookstores & library selections of information on Greece, what are your favorite
Guidebooks for the Islands and best maps you've used/found.
I have used three:
Lonely Planet: Probably covers the most spots, aimed at the backpacker, so cheap eats and sleeps listed, otherwise, pretty short on narrative. Can be several years old info.
Frommers: bit more upscale, bit less places covered, bit more info and "guide" type stuff
Lets Go: Sort of middle ground between the other two, maybe my favotite one guide.
Thanks Paul - I'll check them out online

Though not available in book form, it's worth more than one look. There is a huge amount of info written with heart and passion, something most travel books lack. That's why we read Rick, right?
I had more success purchasing maps once I was in Greece, rather than in the states. We spent our first few days in Athens and there were several news stands and book stores which sold local area maps with even the tiny roads marked. I purchased a Streetwise Athens map from Amazon.com before we left.
Check ous the Greece travel web site recommended by the previous poster. Its better than any guide book, easy to navigate, and has links to other web sites. We used one of the travel agents suggested on the site tobook our hotels in Athens, the islands and Nafplio and everything was great.
Thanks James & Lisa - for your recommendations.
