Greek ferry ticket?

We are planning on going from Athens to Naxos, but I'm not sure how or where to go to find out about the ferry schedule, cost, etc. And should I buy the tickets before I leave the states?

There is a daily morning Blue Star car ferry that leaves Athens/Piraeus around 7:30. You don't say what your travel dates are but there might be other ferries available to you as well. The best ferry schedule/booking website is http://www.gtp.gr. Summer schedules are not yet available. Use their link to www.danae.gr for booking. Do a trial booking for pricing. The basic economy ticket will cost somewhere around €30, and if you spend a few euro more you can have a reclining indoor aircraft-style seat that is much more comfortable than the first-come-first-served seating out on the decks, and it's reserved so no one can take it from you. You don't say what your travel dates are but there might be other ferries available to you as well. If you book online you can opt to pick up your tickets right at the airport from the travel desk of Amphitrion Holidays in the Arrivals Hall between Exit/Entry Doors 2&3. They're open 24/7. Cash only, no CCs. If your travel dates are between late June and the end of August I strongly advise you to use this service and avoid the madness in the Piraeus ticket offices. If you're travelling in May, early-mid June or September you don't have to book ahead, just go to Amphitrion when you first get to the airport and buy them on the spot. You can take the Airport Metro/Green Line Train combo or the Airport Express bus to Piraeus, and with tickets in hand you will be very close to the pier where the ferry to Naxos is docked. You can just show up and go aboard about 30-45 minutes before departure.

Wow, thank you Lee. That is great info. We will be there June 6th. So perhaps we just wait and buy the tickets at the airport when we get in? I was searching for a fast ferry, but haven't seen any information on the co. And times etc. I also appreciate the seat reservation info as I wasn't sure if it was worth it or not. Thanks again. If there is a fast ferry then it will either be from Hellenic Seaways or Sea Jets. Nothing showing up yet.
