We are leaving Turkey, going to Samos in mid September. I cannot find ferry schedules to plan further travel. We would ideally like to go to Chios, but do not know if this is possible. Does anyone have experience in this area? I have looked at the ferry web sites but they do not give schedules for September.

http://gtp.gr is the website you need. Schedules are for this season only (about 90 days), but you can get an idea of what boats will be available (or rather, if it is an "always" route or "sometimes" route) by looking at dates closer in.

I have looked at that web site but schedules only seem to be out 3 weeks. Worried that shoulder season the schedule will change. When to scaled down schedules start? Or, are we best to go with no specific travel plans and see what is available when we get there?

On www.gtp.gr I'm seeing a ferry from Samos to Chios until September 7. It's not unusual for post-summer schedules to be missing from ferry schedule websites this early in the year. Expect them in August. And it's always a good idea to keep your itinerary as flexible as possible since the ferry schedules can change without notice at the last minute regardless of what's been posted.
