how do you get by bus from olympia to nafplio?

It's not easy. You must transfer and the Greek bus system isn't really set up for ease of use and transfers or even giving you information about such trips. According to RS, you need to go to Tripoli and then get a bus to Nafplio. Expect 5+ hours. How are you getting to Olympia?

Thanks for your reply. Thought it wouldn't be easy but was hoping someone would have had experience with the same bus trip; have you taken it before? We are taking a bus from Athens to Olympia.

Carol I've not done Olympia to Nafplio but I have used the bus to get to Nafplio from Andritsena, which is also in the north west of the Peloponnese. As Douglas says one option is to change at Tripolis. If you do be sure to set off quite early in the day. From memory the last Tripolis / Nafplio bus leaves Tripolis at around 14.30. Another option might be to come back from Olympia to Corinth and change there. The distance travelled is greater but a lot of it is on motorway which will be quicker. Another advantage is that the bus you connect with at Corinth is the bus down from Athens to Nafplio and these run well into the evening. Whether this would be better than going via Tripolis I don't know, but it gives another option. Alan

Carol - Also ask at your hotel. They better than anyone here can best help you figure out bus schedules. And the advice to leave Olympia early is good, otherwise it may take you two days to get to Nafplio.

Thanks Doug and Alan--the hotel said bus through Tripoli. We are leaving early in the morning, so guess that's the way we'll do it!

Carol Thanks for coming back and letting us know. Olympia is the one major site we've never done, and it's interesting to know it's accessible via that route from Nafplio. Alan

I drove from Olympia to Nafplio in a rented SUV. Beautiful view the entire route but white-knuckle driving! Winding road thru the mountains and I was on the "cliff" side. It was fun but not for the faint of heart.

We took the bus from Nafplio to Olympia, some nine years ago. Plan on an early departure, it is a most of the day trip. The bus station in Nafplio had information specifically on how to get to olympia and sold a ticket all the way through, showing the transfer at Tripoli. I would assume that the Olympia station will as well, though there really is not much of a station there. The TI will also have info. The trip itself is very scenic, goes through a gorge area, a bit of a thrill ride.
