Greece in 9 Days!

I want to travel around the Greek islands starting around April 17th. I know I want to see Mykonos, Santorini, and Skopelos. I just want to take the ferries around to see the different islands. Is it easier to start in Italy and take a boat from there or fly to one of the islands? Time is not a problem so please give me your best itinerary ideas! Thanks!

It appears that you have yet to make your plans, am I correct? You should know that April 19 is Greek Easter Sunday and for the few days before to a few days after it is the busiest time for travel in Greece for Greeks returning home for the holiday. All Hotels, ferries and planes will be booked solid soon, so make definite plans VERY soon and get confirmed reservations. Otherwise you will be scrambling for a place to sleep and a way to get from one location to the next. It is also very likely that there will be NO public transportation on the 19th and perhaps again on the 20th.

Oh thank you for mentioning that. I had heard there was a big holiday for the Greeks but was not sure when. Do you think if I left later in April I could avoid that time? Like if I left April 22 or something?

Yes, by April 22 things will have pretty much returned to normal. Be advised that the weather, however, is still somewhat unpredictable in April, so expect some cold days and nights. If at all possible change your dates to mid-late May.

Kalimera!

We will actually be in Greece at the same time you will.

I have found Matt Barrett website to be an incredible resource

I suggest you check it out.

While in Mykonos I highly recommend that you take the short ferry to Delos..it was a highlight for me.

So even early May would not be as good as mid-late May? Would the water still be pretty chilly at this time?

I go swimming in late-May. The water can still be too cold for swimming then but it really just depends on your tolerance for cold, how hot it's been for awhile and if there's any wind. The wind cools the water the same way you cool a hot cup of coffee.
