Greece - Implications of Unrest? - Traveling in late AUG - early SEP

My wife and I will be traveling to Greece (and onward to Istanbul) in late AUG of 2011 - early SEP. We're interested to know what implications the current civil unrest might have. Details: We'll be in Athens at first, then driving the countryside for a few days before ferrying to Mykonos and then to Santorini before flying on to Istanbul. With that in mind, what concerns should we have and how might we plan for contingencies? Thanks all.

Avoid Syntagma Square. That's where the demonstrations occur. They're usually non-violent but trouble can occur quickly. The Syntagma Metro Station is underground so it's safe to pass through the station. Just be sure you have figured out your transportation alternatives to get to the ferry ports. If taxis are on strike you can use the Green Line Metro from Monastiraki Square or Omonia Square, or a Bus to get to Piraeus. You should also know that there are 2 ports from which you can get a ferry to Mykonos, Rafina and Piraeus. Rafina will be a lot less crowded than Piraeus. If you take your car from the airport you can return it there and catch a bus or taxi to Rafina. It's a lot closer to the airport than Piraeus and you won't get stuck in traffic or any blockade of Piraeus by taxi drivers if that's happening then. Ferries from Rafina take as little as 2 hours to reach Mykonos. There's also a bus to Rafina from Central Athens that leaves from the bus terminal close to the National Archaeological Museum, which is closest to the Viktoria Metro Station. The bus terminal is between the NAM and Viktoria Station. Rafina would be a pleasant place to spend the night so you don't have to scramble to catch an early-morning ferry to Mykonos.
