If I have the 24 country Eurail pass which I use to cross on a ferry from Italy to Patra, can I continue to use it from Patra to get to Athens? and than take ferry to Santorini? Does anyone know how much it is to get ferry to cross from Athens to Santorini? Thanks
No, the Eurail pass is only valid on the Italy-Greece ferry, and then only deck passage. It is also good for the very limited rail in Greece, there is a line from Patras to Athens, and then North to Thessaloniki. These have also changed with budget problems, so rail is somewhat unreliable. For Athens to Santorini, you would need to look at options on one of the ferry booking sites, but generally the cheapest would be one of the slow ferries (Blue Star) and an economy passage, which would still run 40 to 50 Euro in high season.
Sometimes the domestic Greek Airlines, Olympic Air and Aegean Airlines, offer deeply-discounted plane tickets from Athens to the islands for as little as €39, all taxes included. Be sure to check their websites before you spend another 8 hours of valuable daylight on a ferry. Even in high season the economy ticket for Blue Star Ferries is €37.50
Thank you Paul and Lee ... This helps me decide which Eurail to get.
