Greece & Croatia

We are going to be in Athens and then Croatia in early June. We are wondering about spending money. I will want to buy some Euro for Greece and wondering if I will need much money. We will be in Athens for 3 days and then a few of the islands. We will be on a cruise after we leave Athens. Do they take Visa, American Express? Taxi etc. When in Croatia we will be there for three days. Day stops on the cruise. Will we need their money as well?

Credit cards are becoming more widely accepted in Greece's small businesses but taxis only take cash. Yes, of course you'll need the local currency for Croatia, the Kuna. Take a debit card with you so you can get cash from ATMs as needed at the best overall exchange rate. Don't buy currency here in the States, it's too expensive and unnecessary. Be sure to notify your bank that you intend to use your Debit card in Europe so they don't freeze your account. Don't use your credit card at an ATM or you will pay a very high interest rate as well as a transaction fee.
