Greece: Chosing a Taxi.

Let's say you find another couple who would share a taxi with you from Airport to central Athens. How do you chose a 'good' one? Is there something to look for to give an indication? Must you take the next one in line? I'd assume you agree on the fare before loading, then if fare was E40 you would each pay E20. Any other tips are welcome!

Den There is now a set daytime rate for taxis from the airport to the centre of 35 euros. The night rate - midnight to 5 a.m. - is 50 euros. There's no need to worry about which one to take. There is a fairly organised system with both taxis and passengers queuing and you just take the one that is available when you reach the head of the queue. Depending on time of day it can be as quick to get the metro given problems with traffic in the centre. Cheers Alan

And don't be surprised if the taxi has scratches and/or dents. All cars in Athens have them, it's the nature of traffic in Athens. While there I rode in one taxi that was unscratched and only because it was brand new.
