We are thinking about taking a Gray Line tour from Istanbul to Cappadocia next September. We have a choice of flying there or taking a bus out of Istanbul. We would prefer flying there. It would include two nights at a hotel in Cappadocia. Is Cappadocia worth the money to go all that way? Thank you.
Without knowing what Gray Line is charging, it's hard to answer that question. Is Cappadocia an amazing and unique place, full of history and awesome natural beauty? Certainly, which is why most tourists to Turkey try to work it into their itinerary. Flying is definitely the way to go, since Turkish discount airlines are inexpensive and Cappadocia is a long, long, long bus ride from Istanbul. It's pretty easy to book your own hotel and airfares, though, and then arranging a tour with a local tourist agency either in Istanbul or when you get to Cappadocia. You might try pricing out those options and see if the Gray Line tour is competitively priced. There are lots of lovely (and surprisingly cozy) cave hotels in Urgup and Goreme, which are an unforgettable aspect of a Cappadocia visit.
Please do not miss Cappadocia, it is fantastic and will be a huge highlight of your trip. Flying on Turkish air is inexpensive. You dont need a tour company. We stayed at the Kelebeck in Gorome and then have a tour company there that has the best tours I have ever been on. We died 2 days of touring beside our own hiking and touring which is easy to do from there The tour ranged about $30 per person for all day small groups, and included a wonderful lunch.
Thank you for your information. We have decided to take your recommendation and go there next September. Thank you again. Elaine
