Going to Lake Bled in October - Fly into Ljubliana? Klagenfurt? Zagreb?

We are hoping to book using air miles. Coming from San Francisco, what would be the best airport to fly into, and then what is the best/easiest way to get to lake Bled? Thanks for letting me pick your brains.

LJU is easy to fly in. you can probably get a small plane from paris or amsterdam. from LJU you can either take train or bus to bled.

Once you figure out which is the best airport, you should turn your attention to which airports you can get free tickets into.

I actually am doing something similiar in April... I had originally booked award Tickets to Paris, and had planned to catch an EasyJet flight on to LJU. However, it looks like they are cutting that route after LJU. I ended up re-booking award tickets into London, and finding a cheap flight from Stansted to LJU.

Yep. I'll echo the other posters here. Ljubljana is the closest airport to Bled. Yes, it will probably be difficult or a 'waste' of miles to use miles all the way to Ljubljana, but maybe not. Yes, I would first see what major hubs in Europe you can get to using your miles, and then use a web site like skyscanner.com to book the flight to Ljubljana. You might also want to check on flights into Zagreb. I have taken the train from Zabreb to Bled, and it's quite easy.

Also consider Graz as a possibility for a "points" airport. Flew back from there, after spending a couple of days in Ptuj (after Lake Bled). Between the Slovenian border and Graz is the very pleasant South Styrian Wine Route, that we explored.

Prob ljubljana. Agree with above on Graz - wine route good if there's nice weather - might be a bit of a faff getting to lake bled.
