Glyfada

I will be interning and living in Glyfada from late April until mid June and am just looking for any helpful info or tips about the area. I know there is a tram that goes downtown, but does anyone know if this is a walkable distance (say, to Plaka?) or if getting a bike would be a good idea?

We stayed at a hotel in Glyfada a few years ago to attend a conference. It is not a walkable distance to the Plaka in Athens, at least not for me. It's about a 25 minute drive. Glyfada has a beautiful marina and some palatial homes close to the seashore. A bike might be good idea but the highway is a very busy one. Lots of info if you google a bit.

Jenessa The tram runs along the coast and will take you to Syntagma Square which is a few minutes walk to Plaka. The journey on the tram is up to an hour depending on traffic. Locals often transfer from the tram to the metro at Neo Kosmos station. This cuts off the most central part of the tram journey and speeds up the journey time overall. Tram tickets are fairly cheap- 1 euro - or, if you are doing the journey a lot, it might be worth investing in a weekly card which also covers buses, trolley and metro. This is around 10 euros. (I'm not absolutely sure about prices as, with the current economic crisis, they keep going up!) There's a nice walk along the seafront from Glyfada up towards Piraeus and it would be possible to cycle along the promenade for at least some of the way. Have a look here for a little bit on a journey by tram. http://www.greekramblings.org.uk/outings%20and%20daytrips.html Cheers Alan
