gluten-free meals

Are there any restaraunts or vendors who serve gluten-free food? Is there much of a language barrier in requesting certain foods?

This is too vague. Can you be more specific about which countries you are visiting?

Well, it was posted to the East board so the question is unlikely to be about France, Italy, Germany, BeNeLux, or the UK or Ireland. That narrows it down, a little. I'll guess Belarus. I have no experience of restaurants in Belarus. Sorry. Maybe another volunteer could pitch in if they know about special menus in Belarus?

This is one I can answer as I am allergic to wheat, rye, barley, and oats(even the gluten-free kind) & travel at least once a year to Czech Rep with my Czech husband. You can find a gluten-free section in the Country Life store an alley away from the old town square on the way towards Havelska market. There's even really good rustic bread in a twin loaf pack there that tastes really good for gluten free. You can always make some sandwiches to fill any gaps. Truethfully, I still bring some gluten free items like Marys Gone Crackers and gluten free bagels from home to hold me over until I can get to the grocery store. Bez lepkovy means gluten free in Czech. But many folks do not fully understand that things like flour contain wheat. Use an allergy translation spreadsheet to help from the following website to help the server & cook understand your needs.
http://www.food-info.net/allergy/en-cz.pdf Do what you normally would here in the USA when ordering food like telling the waiter "no croutons" on salad, no gravy or sauce on food, order rice or boiled/baked potato for the starch item, no fried food - only baked or grilled, and no breading or flour on meats.
