Sister and I considering a trip in one of these countries. Any info out there about friendliness, safety on these choices?
Where you go should depend on several factors. Do you or your sister speak Hungarian? I have been to Budapest twice, and while speaking only English in Budapest is not a problem, sometimes it is more difficult in smaller cities to get by with English only. Traveling in Germany and not speaking German is rarely a problem. If I really wanted to go somewhere and didn't speak the language, I would still go. I just think that Germany would be an easier trip.
While I haven't spent much time in the Bremen area, I have spent a lot of time in Hamburg. My son also lived in both Kiel and Flensburg; there is a lot to do in that not-very-touristy area of Germany. Budapest is also a wonderful city; it is probably my 87 year old mother's favorite European city. She keeps saying "I hate to think that I will never see Budapest again."
