Gate one travel

Has anyone booked a tour with Gate One Travel and if so how was it?

I used them once about 12 years ago. The were everything that they promoted. I had been overseas once in the early 1980's when I was young and adventurous but this was going to be the first trip with my wife and I was not particularly wealthy and it seemed to be a good option. I know a lot more now and I know I can do better on just about every front by self booking. Still, if you are uncertain and need the comfort of someone else's organization it's not a bad decision. Just know that while some organizations like Rick Steves or the Smithsonian have some pretty unique added value to their tours a company like GATE1 only provides the added value of having done all the planning for you.

I took a trip to Greece in 2005 with Gate 1 Travel and it was well organized, you could take optional tours if you wanted or just linger on own. I was pleased.

We have never booked with a tour before because we always go on our own but this time we are looking to go to China and I think a tour might be better. Gate One has a lot of bang for the buck but if they don't do a good job it is wasted money.

China's just as easy as Europe, and usually cheaper. A tour is about as necessary as hiring and english-speaking guide for London.

I have used Gate 1 Travel 4 times and really like it. The prices, services, guides, times are all very good. I'm currently booked with Gate 1 to go to Southeast Asia in January, and to Romania/Bulgaria/Serbia in May/June. -------------- Of course I also do Rick Steves Tours (so far 7 of them) and they are a different type of tour. Since I love to travel - both of these types of tours have worked for me.
The older I get - the less independent travel I do :)
