IS the best way to travel from split to Dubrovnik to go by ferry or catamaran? Do you need tickets ahead? I see individuals have gone from Split to Korcula but not to Dubrov. Thank you, Kathy
You can take a ferry, catamaran or a bus. You only need to buy your ticket a day or two ahead of time. Check the ferry schedule--we ended up taking the bus because there wasn't a ferry on the day we needed to travel. I have nothing but positive things to say about the bus, though--very comfortable, beautiful scenery, met nice people.
We also took the bus and it was a nice ride with nice views of the coast. I know a catamaran goes to Hvar but I don't think one goes all the way to DBV.
Bus is easy and BEAUTIFUL.
Enjoy Dubrovnik. It's one of my favorite cities. Don't book a room until you arrive at the bus terminal. Lots of competition will greet you. Pick something close to the old city inside the walls.
One more thing and I wish someone would have told me this. The bus seats are assigned, not first come, first served. Just a heads up.
I'm glad we didn't stay inside the old town on this one-dubrovnik. I debated after reading so much on Foders talk site and got an apt up looking over old town. We spent all our days in old town and it was nice sitting out on the big balcony in the mornings and evenings with the magnificent views.
Our bus seats were not assigned but that was in May of 06 so they may have changed it. We bought our tics an hour before the bus left and there were plenty of seats.
