from greece to turkey

My friend and I are spending 2 weeks in greece and Turkey in september. We were planning on a week in each country.

My question is: what is the best way to get from Greek Islands to Turkey mainland (kusadasi most likely)? what are the options from Santorini, etc. We have limited time and we want to make the most of it.

From Santorini you'll have to take a ferry going to Samos, via Paros or Naxos. It will be an overnight deal so plan accordingly so not to lose time. The local port authority will have all the schedules and give you the best option. Go there first thing after getting to Santorini. Samos has a two hour ferry to Kusadasi in Turkey. Otherwise you have entry points in Mamaris (closest island is Rhodes), or Bodrum. I assume your week in Turkey consists of the Ephesus ruins and Istanbul. Check in Kusadasi. You can arrange a day trip to visit the Pammukkale/Hierapolis sites.

Hi,
Just read the post and was wondering, Jason, if those same or similar directions apply from Ios to Istanbul. Going back Spring of '08, after 40 years, for a few days each place. Any cheap accommodations are welcome as well.

For Ios to Istanbul, you will need to take a different route, most likely back to Athens, then Train or Plane to Istanbul.
