I know we need to drink only bottled water in Turkeyand even brush our teeth in bottled water. But what about salads and uncooked fresh fruits and vegetables served in restaurants? Can we eat those safely? What are your experiences? (No need to give specific details if a digestive disturbance resulted...) Thank you.
My family and I had no problems.
Drink the water.
I was in Istanbul and Cappadocia for 10 days last year and experienced no problems with fresh vegetables, fruit or any other food for that matter. We had a delightful breakfast each morning with strawberries, cucumbers, olives, tomatoes, figs etc. If you miss eating the vegetables you are missing one of the really great parts of your trip. Just exercise caution as
you would at home when choosing a restaurant.
no problem for me - eat fresh veggie/fruits from market just fine, only washed with tap water. no need to brush your teeth with bottled water.
Most anywhere you are likely to go will be fine both for food and water. I have, however, had a few issues in Eastern Turkey, mostly from eating from open air stalls where I suspect the meat may have been out unrefrigerated all day. I also drink bottled water in eastern Turkey as well. But in the touristed zones of western and central Turkey, no problems.
