Flying from Athens to Santorini

Our plane lands in Athens from New Jersey at 10:20 AM and a plane departs for Santorini at 11:50 AM do you think that is enough time to catch the 11:50 flight?

If it's a direct non-stop flight, meaning you have to pass through Passport Control and Customs as well as claim your baggage, NO. If you're arriving from another EU airport where you will have already gone through the formalities, and IF you only have carryon luggage, and IF your flight arrives on time,................MAYBE.

There are 4 steps you'll have to go through after you land. 1) passport control; 2) retrieve checked bags; 3) locate and walk to check-in station for second flight, get boarding passes & recheck bags; 4) go through security check for second flight. Lee is right; if your plane has had a stopover in another EU country, you'll be able to skip step 1. If you can get through each of those steps in 15 minutes or so, you'll make your second flight, assuming your plane from the U.S. lands on time. The Athens airport is very modern and isn't huge, so you won't be faced with any super-long walks. Assuming no glitches or long lines, it's doable.

I am coming from New Jersey to Athens so I think I better take a later flight. Thank You for your experience and advice.

One more question: If we reserve a later flight but get there on time would the airline let us take the earlier flight if the planes not full?

<<would the airline let us take the earlier flight if the planes not full?>> My guess would be yes, but best to call the airline & ask.

Yes, I've done that a few times with no problem.

I would book the later flight but try for the earlier one. We've been fortunate - it has worked for us although there are no guarantees. Remember, you flight from the USA might actually arrive early.
