My daughter and 2 friends need a flight from Paris to Prague in June. What is the cheapest flight? Do you have any recommendations for a hostel in Prague? What is the best way to get from the Prague airport to the city center?
Cindy- I note that you posted earlier about SmartWings, which I found to be reasonably priced, if not cheap, going the other way. Would have been even more so had I made an advance purchase.
Regarding ground transportation; buy a day pass (good on buses, metro and trams) and take the 119 bus from Ruzyne airport to Dejvická metro station, which is at one end of the A (green) line.
It is four stops to Mustek station at the lower end of Wenceslas Square and crossing the B (yellow) metro line, and one further stop to Muzeum station at the upper end of Wenceslas Square and the interchange with the C (red) line.
When I was there in 2007 you were also supposed to buy a 20 crown ticket for your suitcase or large backpack; don't know if that is still in force.
One problem was that the ATM (this was at the train station, not the airport) only gave 2000 crown bills, equivalent to about $100. Fortunately there was a McDonald's nearby with plenty of smaller bills, as well as recognizable American eats!
Some places do take euros even though Prague isn't in the euro zone. In any event, keep your cash safe; I got my pocket picked for about $40 equivalent in the metro by acting like a clueless tourist--baseball cap, map in hand, walking into a crowded car door instead of an empty one; a quick bump-and-jostle and they were gone. Lesson learned.
