I plan to book a 4-berth cabin from Athens to Chania, departing Pireaus May 5 and returning from Chania on May 8. If I buy tickets on-line, how do I actually get those tickets?
The simplest way to do this is to book through the Amphitrion Holidays website and pick up your tickets at the airport when you first arrrive in Greece from their travel desk in the Arrivals Hall between doors 2&3. They're open 24/7.
Thanks for your speedy response. Unhappily, their web site--to which they referred me--will be down for several more days. Since Anek is offering a buy 3 get 1 free special in the month of March, is there an alternative plan if their site does not become available soon?
Try http://www.danae.gr and choose one of the pickup/delivery options they offer. The choices appear after the "contact details" page. The airport pickup option will be Amphitrion Holidays or Pacific Travel, I'm just not sure which.
http://www.danae.gr is the website I used to book a couple of our island hop tickets last year. As usual, Lee is spot on. FYI, in case you've not read this before, Greek ferry websites can sometimes be frustrating. But, if you hang in there, you'll get what you need. You will love Chania. It was one of my favorite spots on our trip. Try the Turkish Baths restaurant and sit outside to get the full experience. PS- Be advised there is no such thing as a pitted olive in Greece, at least in my experience. Have fun.
Something has clearly changed. Apparently, at least for now, it's not possible to book ferry tickets online with Amphitrion Holidays. I find no booking function on their website anymore. You still can, however, walk up to their travel desk at the airport in the Arrivals Hall and purchase ferry tickets on demand. www.danae.gr is a reputable provider.
Are you going to be in Athens before you leave for Chania? If so, we bought tickets through the Anek website, then picked them up at one of their ticket offices in Athens (I think they have 2 or 3 offices, if not more). Very easy. I think you can pick them up at their office in Pireaus too, but we got them ahead of time.
I have been informed that Amphitrion Holidays is in the midst of re-doing their website and the ferry booking function will not be available until after the first of May. In the meantime they will continue to help with ferry bookings if you use their email address: [email protected] [email protected]
You can easily just book the tickets online and then pick them up at the port before you depart. If you arrive one hour prior to departure you should have plenty of time. Getting onto the boat is about as time consuming as getting into a movie theater.
