We have most of our late September trip planned out except for an excursion to Kythira. I am having trouble finding ferry schedules. What have you found to be the most reliable source?
Also... what is the usual boarding process? Should we queue up early or can we arrive just before the boat is scheduled to leave?

It may be that some schedules for September have not yet been finalized and published, so keep checking. Also, when you're ready to move on by ferry check locally for last-minute changes.
If you have your ticket in hand you can arrive around 20 minutes before the boat is scheduled to leave, but if you need to buy your tickets give yourselves an hour at the port if it's still crowded where you are. By late September it probably won't be crowded.
We traveled to Greece in April and had the same problem finding schedules (except for Blus Star) - especially the hydrofoils & catamarans to smaller islands... probably since it is a slower tourist season. You should not have a problem purchasing the tickets when you arrive.
Best advice is to wait till you get there, then walk up buy the ticket and board.
