ferry reliability

We are taking an overnite ferry from Santorini back to Athens which is suppossed to get in around 5:30 am and then flying back to the states at 12 noon the same day. Is there any chance the ferry could be so late such that we could miss our flight home?

Thanx

Of course there's a chance! Any one who tempts fate and tries to get back to Athens on the same day as a flight home is taking a foolish chance. Not only can there be mechanical breakdowns but high winds often keep the ferries from sailing. To prevent this last-minute fiasco save your exploration of Athens until the end of your trip so you have a 1 or 2 day buffer in case of unforseen cancellations. If you don't plan to spend any time in Athens then at least go back the day before your flight home.

Good Luck!

Yes, there is a possibility that the ferry will either delay or cancel. When we were in the islands in Sept. 05, there were two days in two weeks that nearly all ferries stopped due to winds, and another day that some ferries stopped. To be honest, my preference would be to fly (Aegean Air is probably cheaper than your ferry) and spend my last night in Athens, sipping wine, looking up at the lit-up Acropolis, contemplating my wonderful trip.

Thanks for the great advice. That's why I think this forum is great. We decided that we were just cramming in too much and will save greece and santorini for a later trip.
