Ferry from Tasucu, Turkey to Girne (aka Kyrenia), North Cyprus

Has anyone taken the ferry, either the 2 hour trip departing at 11:30am or overnight ferry departing at midnight, from Tasucu, Turkey to Girne, North Cyprus? I would like to hear more about the experience. Ie. was there a place for long term parking at the Tasucu port, how long was the process of buying tickets and going through passport control, was the sea crossing particularly rough, and were passengers allowed on deck. I have gained some info from Google searches, but nothing exceptionally detailed. And yes, I know I can take a flight from various places in Turkey to N. Cyprus, but I am weighing options based upon trip logistics and wanted some more insight about the ferry trip. Thanks!

Have you checked out the Thorn tree forum on the Lonely Planet website - if not, suggest posting this question there. You may get more info. Sorry I can't help - we got as far as Famagusta and flew out of N. Cyprus (Ercan) but didn't deal with the ferry.

Hi Arnold - I did post over there too and was able to get a few fairly detailed responses. Thanks! Was your experience flying in and out of Ercan fairly quick and easy? We'd like to take a side trip to N. Cyprus from our Turkey vacation, but don't want to spend a lot of time and effort going back and forth between the two. It's looking like taking a flight will be more convenient.

I had no problems flying out of Ercan - this was about 3-4 years ago. At that time my research indicated that you may run into problems if you entered N Cyprus (Turkish part) and then tried to depart from Nicosia (Cyprus). However, I was doing the reverse - we stayed in Nicosia the whole time with day trips into N Cyprus. When it was time to leave, we crossed the Green line, took a cab to the airport and checked in. All easy with no hassles.
