We plan on taking the overnight ferry from Bari to Dubrovnik on September 29 and returning to Italy from Split on October 6. We wil not have a car but will require a cabin each way. Is it recommended to book in advance or can we just book on arrival at the terminal? Thanks. Marie

We took the Split to Ancona ferry in early October 2008. Be sure to check schedule as it may be less frequent after summer. I think we did book in advance, when we were in Croatia, but I wanted to mention to you that the cabins are tiny, tiny, tiny. Fine for one night but so miniscule it was almost amusing. Scarcely room for luggage and we had only carry-on bags. A good way to get back and forth from Italy though. We had three weeks and used only public transportation. I wish I were going back!

Sally, Thanks for your information. We will be travelling with roller luggage plus small backpacks. I understand that you can sleep on deck or in the lounge but wonder how safe that is.
