ferries in Croatia

We are taking the ferry to/from Hvar in early June. Do we need reservations or can we buy tickets where we're there? Thanks!

If you mean Split to Hvar, catamaran is your best bet since its faster and docks at Hvar town. Two companies make the run, Jadrolinija and Krilo. Buy your tickets soon after arrival in Split rather than waiting until your travel day(s). Jardolinija also runs slower ferries between Split and Stari Grad on Hvar (connects to bus to Hvar town).

Thanks, Frank! What I actually meant was Dubrovnik to Hvar, then Hvar to Split. But it sounds like I can buy tickets after we get there - no need to book ahead. Appreciate the response!

I had the same question...we will need ferry from to Split to Korcula with a brief stop in Hvar ...this will take place in the high season of July...and was worried about crowds and such... So is necessary to buy tickets in advance or wait til we get there?

The coastal ferry between Dubrovnik and Rijeka that stops in Hvar and Split may not be running in 2013. It's no longer listed as a route on Jadrolinija's website. If that's the case, the alternative is bus to Split and catamaran to Hvar. Probably just as fast if not faster, although less scenic. In high season from Split, one can take a late morning catamaran to Hvar and a late afternoon catamaran on to Korcula. Both Jadrolinija and Krilo service this route. Haven't been there in July, so can't comment on how full the catamarans are that time of year.
