In September, I am hoping to get from Dubrovnik to Korcula and then to Hvar and Split by ferry. The timetables I have seen are very confusing and I am not sure how frequently ferries depart Korcula for Hvar? With my itinerary I can only really afford a day or two on each of the islands.
Ferry options appear to be more limited in 2013 than in prior years. I haven't seen any ferry service from Dubrovnik to Korcula this year, but you can take a bus. Ask your hotel to call the bus station and reserve a ticket, then pick it up at the bus station an hour or so before departure. Jadrolinija appears to be running one catamaran a day from Korcula to Hvar, departing 6:00am and arriving 7:50am. Both Jadrolinija and Krilo run daily catamarans from Hvar to Split, so that part of the trip will be the easiest.
Thanks for the information. I'll look into the bus to Korcula.
You can get a "transfer" between Dubrovnik and Korcula. I did it the other way (May 2012) but the company that does it takes people both ways. Connections are a "water taxi" (20 minutes?) between Korcula old town across the channel to Orebic (?) on the mainland, then a small bus (2-3 hours?) between the water taxi landing and Dubrovnik. They ped us at their office just outside the old Dubrovnik gate. Look at Rick's book's listing for Korcula. There's a small agency that handles the transfers to Dubrovnik. They should be able to arrange the same trip going the other way. Details I recall: our trip left Korcula around 7:30 am and arrived in Dubrovnik around 11 am. I'd expect them to do the return trip in early afternoon. I recall it being reasonable cost (25-30 Euro?), fairly comfortable, and only taking a few hours. Would do it again.
My husband and I just went from Dubrivnik to Korcula on June 5. We got mini bus tickets from a travel agent. The bus left at 5:00 p.m. and arrived in korcula around 7:30. It worked fine and cost about $25 US each. We did not go to Hvar but went straight to Split from Korculat 2 days later. The only catamaran leaves Korcula at 6:00 a.m. and you should buy your tickets the night before at the dock between 7:00 & 8:00 as per Rick's book. This same boat stops in Hvar on the way to Split.
Thanks for all the great information. I now have options.
