Faxing to Turkey

Hello - I am making a reservation for my first night in Istanbul and need to send my credit card # to reserve it. However, I don't want to send my # via email due to security reasons. Is it safe to fax it? If so, does it cost extra to fax from the USA? I've never done this!

Thanks.

Be it email/fax//telephone there is no 100% secure way to send CC info. A lot of fraud comes from low-tech methods like sifting through garbage cans, stealing mail, or a dishonest clerk simply writing down the number on a piece of paper and selling it to a criminal group. I've sent my CC# to hotels via email on several occasions, and never had a problem. If something does happen, you're protected from unauthorized use.

Some people, by prior arrangement, send their CC info in two separate faxes or emails by dividing the numbers in half.

A fax to Turkey from the U.S. costs the same as what your long distance service charges you for an international call.

As far as security goes, the transmission of an email is far more security than a fax transmission. What happens after the hotel gets it is where security is the problem? Email it and breaking into two emails adds little security.
