my daughter is getting married the beginning of June in Hvar. We will be staying in Venice prior to the wedding and have large pieces of luggage. Looking for the easiest way to get to Split and ultimatlely Hvar in 1 day. All the ferries seem like a hassle. Any suggestions??
Are you going back to Venice to fly out? Car is a good option if you're not going to get dinged with 1-way drop off fees. Most of the drive is straight freeway, and beautiful (runs along the coast).
Thanks for your reply. No, we will be leaving from Split after the wedding, connecting thru London and onto Phila..Searched yesterday- considering taking the train from Venice to Ancona and then the overnite ferry to Split and then on to Hvar. Not sure if this is the best option?????
We did this trip in the opposite direction (Hvar to Venice) in about 24 hours. We took an overnight ferry from Hvar to Rijeka (it stopped in the harbor in Split for maybe an hour). From Rijeka, we took a bus to Trieste, and from there a train into Venice.
In the summer, I believe there are ferries from Venice to Croatia (not sure exactly where they land). You could then pick up another ferry to Split & Hvar, or possibly take a bus down the coast. We were very impressed with the buses in northern Croatia; very fast and comfortable.
Whatever you do, I'm afraid it won't be easy. But what a lovely place for a wedding!
Your best options to complete the trip from Venice to Hvar within the same day would be flying or driving. Even then, you may not arrive in Split early enough to catch the last catamaran or ferry to Hvar. You could complete the trip within 24 hours by taking an overnight ferry from Rejika or Ancona, and then a morning catamaran to Hvar.
Thank you all for your help.We deceided on the more expensive option...flying from Venice to Budapest to Split- more expensive but less brain taxing! Have to fresh for the wedding there!!
