Farm Stay in Slovenia

We are 3 friends looking for a farm stay style of accomodation for 3 - 4 nights in May. We will have a car and would like a place centrally located that we could take day trips to Ljubljana, Lake Bled, the caves, etc. I'm thinking maybe in the Postojna or Skofja Loca areas. I have found a few possiblilities but I'm looking for a personal recommendation from travellers who have actually stayed at such a place and how it worked out for them. Maybe it's better to break it up and stay at a couple different places. What do you say?!

Terrry, My husband and I used a tourist farm for a 3 night stay a few years ago. Turistica Kmetija Hudicevec was in Hrusevje, which is close to the caves. This was a real, working farm. I remember that there was a flock of sheep with lambs that passed by the breakfast room each morning. Tourists stayed in a modern building right in the middle of farm houses, barns, etc. Our room was comfortable, immaculately clean and well-maintained. We had a private bathroom in the room. The guest house included several lounge areas and I recall there was free access to a computer and internet service. Meals were served in a building next to the guest house. The hostess, an energetic, friendly, English-speaking young mother, was flexible about when breakfast was available. For a small fee, we could also request dinner. Most of the food seemed to be locally grown and the dishes were typcal of the region. My only minor complaint was that one night there was a large crowd for dinner, perhaps from a passing tour bus. Service was slow and the dining room was noisy and the staff seemed a bit overwhelmed. The other night we had dinner at the tourist farm was quiet with excellent food and very attentive, friendly service. We used this location after we visited Ljubljana and drove through the Julian Alps. This became our "home base" for day trips to the caves, Piran, Pula, and the mountain villages in Croatia. Feel free to write if you have any questions.

in 2007 we stayed at the tourist farm Hudicevec not far from Postojna and the main highway from Ljubljana to Koper. Travelled all over the area. Visited Predjama Castle, Skocjan Caves, Stanjel, Lipica, the
Franja Partisan Hospital near Cerkno, Idrija, Piran and Socerb Castle with wonderful views overlooking the Adriatic & Trieste....all easy drives. We have stayed in several tourist farms throughout Slovenia over the past few years and they all were comfortable and clean. Have a great time in Slovenia....my husband and I have managed to tie in a visit toSlovenia, if only for a week, on our last 3 European visits. Its a wonderful country

I stayed at Turisticna Kmetija Hudicevec and can also recommend that one. It is close to the caves and Lipica Stud Farm, and it is right next to the highway which should allow you to hop on to drive to Ljubljana for a day trip. If you can it is worth having dinner there at least once! I also wanted to recommend Turisticna Kmetija Kranjc, if you wish to see area further west in the Julian Alps. The breakfasts there were spectacular, and the hosts very helpful. The place is further away from the highway and the closest town is Kobarid. It would be a great place to stay if you want to explore the Julian Alps area for a couple days, but probably not ideal if you wish to take day trips to other parts of the country. If you are visiting Slovenia from another country make sure you pick up a vignette for the tolls.
