I have read some guidebook info that much of Greek sights and accomodations close in the fall. My husband and I are considering a trip the middle two weeks of October and would do about 7 days in the Cyclades or closer to Athens. any input out there if this time of year is ok for Greece?
The Cyclades islands are good in October. The air is not cold, and there probably will not be rain in October. On the island Naxos the hotels cost much less after September 15. There I recommend Hotel Apollo. Less expensive hotels, which are pleasant are Irene Pension one, and Irene Pension two. Read about Naxos in the travel guide book Lonely Planet : Greece.
I agree with Ron for the Naxos suggestion. It is the biggest with a lot to see and do. But my personal favorite is Amorgos. It is out of the way, in October there will be very few other tourists. It is amazingly beautiful. The Monastary hanging on the cliff side is a must visit. Climb to the top and accept the drink from the Monks... I'll never forget it...
