I can save 30,000 frequent flyer miles if I fly to somewhere in Europe, rather than directly to Cairo. Can anyone recommend a discount carrier that I could get a great rate on from (any large) European city?
Terry....you might want to try Jetair, which has flights from Brussels, although they range from 200 to 300 Euro round trip....http://www.jetairfly.com/en/index.php. Swissair (http://www.swiss.com) offers round trips for about 400 Euro out of London thru Zurich (cheaper than booking straight from Zurich, believe it or not). Alitalia is about the same from Milan. No major discount carriers seem to be going into Cairo right now....not enough of a mass tourist market yet. I'm not sure if those prices are worth saving 30,000 points.
Most of the big European discount airlines fly within the EU, and not so much internationally, so you may not find much. You might try Aegean Air out of Greece; they indicate they fly to Cairo, and I have found them very reasonable within Greece, but they may have a limited schedule.
I just checked europebyair.com. They have a flight from Athens to Cairo for $129 one way.
Carl, I tried checking dates and prices on Europebyair.com. However, after I put in my dates and airports, I can't get an actual price. What am I doing wrong?
Terry, I always deal with them by phone. I suggest you use the toll-free number and talk with an agent. Try 1 888 321 4737.
