Enough time to connect at Athens Airport

Arriving at Athens International from Jordan at 3:25 and departing at 4:55 on Olympic Air -- enough time to make connection?

Llsa, Luckily athens airport is more compact than most nation's capital airport international & domestic air depts are just at opposite ends of same building. There have been times in my experience, where I find myself thru all the lines, & with my bag & out of airport in 45 minues. However, it all depends! So we usually advise allowing 2 hours between connections. We cannot give you good advice on tryng a closer connection because there are so many factors you do not address: • Are you doing carry-on? That cuts your time a lot! • You DO mean 3:25 pm, right? If 3:25 AM, no problem - the place will be deserted, you'll zoom thru lines • What airline are you using? Is it one with a good on-time record? Will you be in a smallish plane, i.e., 100 or so passengers, or a Gi-Normous Airbus, with 400+ people crowding ahead of you to the lines? • What date EXACTLY? It matters! Just before or after a holiday, OR in High Season OR on a day like Saturday when many incoming big planes = long passport control lines • Is your destination an island also served by Aegean Air, which may have a later flight?? • What would be the downside if you missed the flight? Have to wait for a later Olympic Flight? Have to re-book for next day? Do u have a "must" pre-paid hotel room? ... address the above and you may find that you have answered your own question. If you still are undecided, share the above answers & we'll have more to go on.

Hi Lisa- Arriving from Jordan means you will have to go through Passport Control and Customs in Athens, which can take a lot of time. If your plane is on time and your luggage is quickly retrieved then 1.5 hours will just be enough time, but if there are any delays it will be a tight squeeze. Keep in mind that your 1.5 hour connection time does not start when you're on the gound and waiting at the baggage carousel. It starts when your plane lands. It takes time to get off the plane, onto the bus to the terminal, ride to the terminal and walk to the baggage carousel then into the immigration/customs area to wait your turn before going upstairs to check in for your domestic flight. It's stressful. I've done it. Countless others have too. The question is, do you feel lucky?

How about if you're flying from one Greek island to another, through Athens? We're flying from Rhodes to Athens and then to Mytilini, all on Aegean, with 50 minutes between flights in Athens, early on a Thursday morning in mid-September. Does anyone know if we have to go through any passport control, etc. in this case??

No, of course not. You're flying domestically. It would be the same as if you were flying from Denver to New York with a change of planes in Chicago. 50 minutes is a "legal" connection time, and if you're flying all the way with the same airline then you have nothing to worry about.

Thanks. That's what I thought, but I appreciate the confirmation.
