electrical converter - I am confused!

So, reading the RS book I learned that my new electronics (IPOD, Carmera charger, curling iron) should only need an adapter but at the travel store the guy said i should by a converter - 40 bucks - I will be in prague, cesky crumlov, vienna, and budapest. Should I buy the converter?

Somewhere on your electronics, either stamped into the plastic or on a sticker bonded to them, are the electrical specifications for your products. If you see something like 110-220v. or 120-240v. it means they are dual-voltage, which is most likely, and all you'll need is a plug-end adapter from two flat prongs to two round ones. But if they only say 110v. or 120v. then indeed you will need a voltage converter since European voltage is 220-240v and will fry those manufactured only for use in the States.

Most electronic items are universal voltage, as the previous post says: look for 110-240 V. But many electric items such as a curling iron are not universal voltage. Again, somewhere on the device it should say, 110-240 V
