Egypt- need input

I spent 11 days in Egypt last year and highly recommend doing a tour. By tour, I just mean someone that arranges your transportation and hotels. It's difficult to get around on your own because certain areas require armed convoys. We used http://touregypt.net to find a tour operator that suited us. If you request information using this link http://ww3.interoz.com/tourgroups/submit.ihtml, you'll get a ton of e-mails, but once I sorted through them I was able to narrow down the tours that would work for us. We ended up visiting Alexandria, Cairo, Luxor, Aswan and Abu Simble. Please feel free to send me a message if you have any questions.

I agree with Karis, Egypt is definitely one of those places where you should take a tour instead of doing it independently; its a crazy place :) It's not a dangerous, but public transport is not geared for tourists and many of the sites don't have any soft of explanation, either in English or Arabic for that matter.

I did an Adventures Abroad tour of Egypt in 2005 and really liked the tour. The company's style is similar to Rick's (smaller groups, many things included in price, etc). They're based out of Vancouver. BTW, I absolutely loved Egypt. Plan to go back again soon.

I'd like to add a different opinion. I have traveled all over Europe, Asia and quite a bit of S. America on my own without any tour. It all depends on your comfort level of being in a different culture and taking the challenge to navigate on your own. People are always available to help you. Do your research and decide which way you want to travel.
